Keynote: Beyond the ‘I’ in AI
9:05 - 9:25
Insight. Implementation. Integration. AI, or artificial intelligence, is transforming the products we build and the way we do business. It also presents new challenges for those who need to build AI into their systems. Creating an “AI-driven” system requires more than developing intelligent algorithms. It also requires:
- Insights from domain experts to generate the tests, models, and scenarios required to build confidence in the overall system
- Implementation details including data preparation, compute-platform selection, modeling and simulation, and automatic code generation
- Integration into the final engineered system
Join us as Michael Carone demonstrates how engineers and scientists are using MATLAB® and Simulink® to successfully design and incorporate AI into the next generation of smart, connected systems.
Michael Carone
MathWorks
Michael Carone is a senior product marketing manager for the Simulink platform at MathWorks. Michael’s background is in mechanical engineering and engineering design methodologies. He has an M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. from Lehigh University, both in mechanical engineering.
Guest Keynote: How Augmented Data and AI can Turbo Charge Value and Decision Making
9:25 - 9:45
Avi Sharabi
KPMG
Avi Sharabi is a seasoned technology executive with over 20 years’ experience in delivering business solutions to large private and public organisations across the US and Australia. Prior to KPMG, Avi was a Partner at Deloitte where he started and led the NSW Business Intelligence team for 7 1/2 years managing a team of more than 50 consultants and partners. Avi holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science (Highest Honours, Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of California Santa Cruz where he was a Regent Scholar (1995) and a Master’s degree in Legal Studies from UNSW (2003).

Masterclass: Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning Workflows in AI
2:15 - 3:15
Two new workflows in AI, deep learning and reinforcement learning, are transforming industries and improving applications such as diagnosing medical conditions, driving autonomous vehicles, and controlling robots. This session dives into how MATLAB® supports these workflows including labelling, interoperability with open source, training deep neural networks, tuning and generating multi-target code for e.g. NVIDIA.
Emmanuel Blanchard
MathWorks
Emmanuel Blanchard is an application engineer at MathWorks who first joined the company as a training engineer. He taught several MATLAB, Simulink and SImscape courses as well as specialized topics such as machine learning, statistics, optimization, image processing and parallel computing. Prior to joining MathWorks, he was a Lecturer in Mechatronic Engineering at the University of Wollongong. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He also worked as a Systems / Controls Engineer at Cummins Engine Company and as a research assistant in several research institutions in California and Virginia.
